I have the BOS 2nd edition and I understand the changes to the 3rd edition are minimal. However, the cost to purchase a new one is not minimal. I'm looking for CECs to maintain my credentials (only because it was so difficult to obtain), and chapters 13-24 of the BOS 3rd edition can be used for CECs. The 2nd edition, however, is not in chapters but appendix A through J. Could someone please tell me what chapters 13-24 of the 3rd edition cover, so that I can correlate it to my 2nd edition. Thanks.

Hi LBMTist--Welcome!

Here are the names of Chapters 13-24:

13. Pharmacology
14. Cardiology
15. Genetics
16. Hematology/Oncology
17. Dermatology/Allergy/Immunology
18. Orthopedics/Neurology
19. Obstetrics/Gynecology/Pediatrics
20. Ophthalmology
21. Organisms/Pathogens
22. Psychiatry
23. Pulmonary/Respiratory
24. Other Specialty Standards

FYI--you can buy the 3rd edition used on Amazon.com for $44, which is about $20 less than new.

There are many ways to obtain CECs these days--I believe you can watch a medical show on television and get CECs!

Hope this helps!

Thank you Karyn. This does help. I have checked out Amazon.com, as well as other places, for a new BOS; however, since I took more than 0.02/line cut in pay recently I do not feel compelled to invest more money in my credentials, as they certainly have not paid off for me thus far.

I didn't really see anything on the AHDI Recredentialing Resource Guide about watching a television show for CECs, but thanks anyway.

I got the information about watching television shows that are applicable for CECs from an edition of Plexus magazine, which comes with membership.

Also, I believe any presentations that offer CMEs (continuing medical education)for medical professionals count towards the CMT credential also.

By the way, I don't blame you for not wanting to invest money when you took a 2-cent pay cut. I was outsourced at my last job and the outsourcing company offered me a job at a 6-cent pay cut, which was 1 cent more than I made in 1996! Pretty depressing how much one has to know for the equivalent of Wal-Mart wages, which is what my salary would have been after I factored in the difference in the cost of benefits with the pay cut.

Good luck!
