Here is the skinny on the whole thing in my opinion. If you do not know someone in the business who is willing to hire you as a newbie, it is almost impossible to get a job. If you do not have 1+ past years’ experience in an acute medical job situation, it is very difficult to get hired. If you do not type 70-80 solid wpm at the least, your going to struggle to even come close to making minimum wage. It will only be by luck, right place at the right time, if you get a job as a newbie. There is no way to pass the on-line tests without having previous expierence. Do your research. Search other MT sites. Even experienced transcribers cannot pass some of these tests. We were not readied for these tests or even the world of transcribing. I am taking this as an expensive lesson, but at least I have the certificate. It looks nice on a resume. I have applied for every single job posting that I can. I have sent out multiple resumes to all the on-line companies. I graduated in July, after taking nine months to complete the course and still have nothing to show for it. I have mailed my resume to all the local hospitals and Dr.’s offices. Guess what? Nothing. They do not hire newbies. I am not a slack. I work hard and I am not afraid of hours. This was a dream to work at home for a supplement to our income. It is not working out for me. So I have decided to at least make sure to help anyone who needs help on their tests. Hopefully everyone gets their certificate so that they have something to show for their hard work and money.

Hi kimmiejj--you should not have to pay any money to get a job. If you are going to be an employee, the employer has to furnish the tools and equipment you need to do the work.
Some of these companies prey on people who have been looking for work for a long time. I would suggest that you skip that one.
There is another company out there who does something similar--"hires" you (not even sure if they pay you) after you buy their $400 software and tell you when you are up to speed you will be permanently hired. What they don't tell you is that no one gets up to speed--not even MTs with lots of experience. They have changed their name several times so I don't know what it is now.
Just my opinion--avoid like the plague!
kkb (Karyn), who considers herself a newbie and still remembers what it was like to be a newbie!

I'm on the last course and I was investigating. I put some resumes in just for voluntary work and no luck. They do want at least a year of experience. That doesn't keep me from doing my school work. In turn, I started a home-based business. I work that part time and I'm doing my schooling. If you're interested www.freedomathometeam.com/catheryncurryThis will make you money while you're waiting for a medical transcriptionish job.
